Technical Clinics

Our Technical Clinics can be fined tuned to your specific needs! Let us know what you’re hoping to get out of our instructional courses and we will shape the class however you see fit. We offer half day walk and wade classes without lunch from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. or from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., depending on your preference. If you really want to dive into the subject you can request a full day float class. Lunch is included on full day float classes and you will have ample time to pry us for information!

Beginners Intro to Fly Fishing

If you’re just getting interested in fly fishing and want to get a big jump on understanding casting techniques, rigging, knot tying, fly presentation, fly fishing etiquette, and general fly fishing lingo (so you can recount your tales like a pro) then our beginners intro class would be a great place to start.

Spey Casting

If you have been trout fishing for a while but have been thinking about pursuing trout with a spey rod, or have been thinking about taking the next step into the wonderful abyss of steelhead fishing swung flies, then our spey casting class would be a great way to help shorten the learning curve. We can help educate you on touch and go cast like the Single Spey or Snake Roll if Scandi casting skaters and hair wings for steelhead is your goal. Or we can dial in your Snap T or Double Spey to ensure your Skagit line always comes tight to deliver larger flies to steelhead or trout on sink tips.

European Nymphing

If you or someone you know suffers from not catching enough fish, you may be entitled to a day of European Nymphing! All jokes aside, we have had the pleasure of studying under and gleaning knowledge from some incredible competitive anglers such as Devin Olsen (US National Fly Fishing Team Member) and Tom Jarman (Australian National Fly Fishing Team Member). During our time with them we have developed tactics for finding trout in all water types and conditions with European Nymphing rods. Over the course of the last four years we have developed our in depth classes to help fine tune all the subtle nuances of this specific style of nymphing offering full day classes covering the different styles of cast and drift manipulation techniques. Evan has given in depth presentations to a number of fly clubs here in Oregon and Ben has had the pleasure of traveling to Montana to educate guides on how to effectively incorporate this into their arsenal on the water. Full day intensive European Nymphing clinics will be provided for groups of up to six anglers throughout the season with set dates listed on our home page.

We can provide rods, flies, and tippet for the trip, but feel free to bring your own. All anglers will need to bring their own waders and boots, sun protection, and a valid Oregon fishing license. Make sure you purchase an Oregon fishing license online before you come to Maupin. There are no vendors in Maupin selling fishing licenses.

If you take a look at our Pre-Trip Information page you will find everything you need to know about places to eat and stay in Maupin before and after your trip.

Book a Technical Clinic with us and watch the world of fly fishing either start or expand!

Please note that Technical Clinics will not be offered during the month of May.
